Donations

Urgently needed

We finance our humanitarian work in Ethiopia exclusively with donations from private individuals and companies.

We urgently need financial support so that we can continue and further develop the GO STAR project. Donations enable us to purchase and transport the necessary surgical material and bone implants. In addition, projects are being planned to ensure new standards of hygiene and wound care in particular, as well as important infrastructure.

The Board of Trustees and the GO STAR team work exclusively on a voluntary basis. Employees who work as specialists in Jimma only receive a modest compensation for loss of earnings. The costs for travelling, insurance and accommodation also have to be financed by donations.

Only 8% of the income from donations is used for administration.

Your support has a direct impact on the ground!

30 francs

finance an operation for an Ethiopian patient.

100 francs

finance the manufacture and fitting of a lower leg prosthesis in the orthopaedic workshop and thus support the rehabilitation of an amputee.

200 francs

finance a much more elaborately manufactured thigh prosthesis.

1,000 francs

enable the prosthetic treatment of all amputees in an average Ethiopian village.

3,000 francs

per year covers the cost of a fully equipped hospital bed and includes the medical care and aftercare of a patient as well as their meals.

10,000 francs

enables the purchase of a dermatome. This handy precision device can be used to remove and transplant large areas of skin that are a tenth of a millimetre thick. More than 500 patients a year receive a skin graft at the hospital in Jimma, which drastically reduces infections and wound healing disorders.

Enabling 365 days of medical treatment in a hospital bed

Care for 3,000 per year

Your donation will cover the costs of a fully functional hospital bed and enable the treatment, follow-up treatment, wound care and catering of people who have been injured in accidents.

In addition to the operating theatre infrastructure and consumables, the hospital lacks functional beds that enable hygienic and humane treatment.

Your annual donation gives you the opportunity to inscribe your name on the bed. We are happy to offer you the opportunity to receive pictures and medical histories of "your" patients at regular intervals.

Gifts and legacies

Isn't it reassuring to have your estate well organised according to your own wishes?

There are many reasons why a charity may be a co-heir or sole heir. With a legacy, you allocate a fixed sum or a tangible asset to the Swiss Surgeons Foundation in Ethiopia.
When drawing up a will or a marriage and inheritance contract, the statutory formal requirements must be observed. It is therefore advisable to seek professional advice.

We will be happy to assist you in choosing a competent specialist.

Our new hospital annexe

The current infrastructure is outdated and no longer fulfils the most primitive hygienic and medical requirements. The daily work in this environment is an almost unbearable burden for our specialists.

Thanks to years of work in Jimma, we now have the unique opportunity to occupy an annexe to the current hospital premises in a new hospital built with foreign aid funds.

Our future premises will include

  • 3 operating theatres
  • Rooms for 75 patient beds
  • Ancillary rooms
  • Shared use of training and recreation rooms

Due to a lack of funds, these new premises have not been fully developed and furnished. We also see this as an opportunity to carry out the extension and furnishings ourselves according to our needs and the knowledge we have gained from our many years of work in Ethiopia. We are confident that these one-off investments - also thanks to your support - can be financed and are therefore affordable for us.
